
ZAMBIA CAPTURE EXPERIENCE
Join the WCS team for a unique 10 day wildlife capture experience on a Private Rhino Nature Reserve in Zambia. This once in a lifetime opportunity is open to veterinary students and qualified veterinarians looking for hands on life
changing experience working in the African bush.
This 5000 hectare private nature reserve is located close to Livingstone in Southern Zambia and is just 50km from one of the 7 natural wonders of the world (Victoria Falls). The property offers a safe haven to a variety of African
Wildlife, including the endangered white rhino.
Dates
The wildlife capture programme runs on select dates between June-September.

WHAT TO EXPECT?
As part of your 10 day game capture experience you’ll work alongside wildlife veterinarians and conservationists as you assist the capture, translocation, veterinary care and conservation projects on the reserve and surrounding areas. Participants will gain technical knowledge and skills through theoretical lectures
and hands on field work in small groups of up to 10 individuals.
Participants can expect lectures on various topics relevant to the chemical immobilisation of African wildlife and capture, including:
applied pharamacology
species specific immobilisation procedures
anaesthetic monitoring principles of darting and safety procedures stress & capture related mortality
(approx 12 hours of lectures during your stays)
Lectures typically take place during midday, when temperatures are too high to work in the field. Each day, a structured education programme comprising of approximately 1-2 hours of lectures, followed by the practical application of the
acquired knowledge in the field.
Each participant will be given the opportunity to practice and improve their
veterinary skills such as drug administration techniques, blood draws, monitoring of vitals and application of treatments.
